On the way to the city of light: Paris

Finally, my family is on the way to Paris! Me will be there in several hours. The crazy itinerary I created for them will be start once they arrive.

I might not be able to update this blog for a while. So here is a question for you all to ponder: Why Asian girls all crazy about Louis Vuitton bag?? There was a report on TV yesterday, that the Chinese tourists are blooming in Paris, and all they have are 48 hours to tour the city, and spend money on bags!!! The Asians have the reputation to buy all these branded products, while I have not seen a French girl holding LV bag!

Proton for sale

The Proton car parked outside our apartment complex is for sale now. See the owner miss-spelled the word "Proton" to "Pronto". This car is 12 years old, not bad for a Proton.

I'm tempting to ask for a ride, see how it feels driving the Malaysian car outside Malaysia with the wheel on the left. What say you?

Vacation! Vacation! Vacation!

While in the last two countries I lived in, Malaysia and USA, summer just came and went and I didn't even notice it as life just went on as usual.

Here in France, I feel like everyone everywhere is shouting: It's vacation time!
The symptoms:

1. When the library open only half day, and sometime you want to hit yourself knowing that you have to return the books and the library closes for 3 days consecutively during the week (It doesn't open on Monday, since Wednesday is a holiday they decided to close on Tuesday too).
2. When your favorite bakery announces that they are closed for the entire August.
3. When you try to see your doctor and she wasn't there.
4. When the pharmacy you frequent close for vacation.
5. When you miss a bus you have to wait for 20 minutes for the second one instead of 5 minutes
6. When you see only half the sellers turn up for the weekly market
7. When everybody is talking about going to the beach
8. When everybody asks you where you are going for vacation
9. When you see less dog poos on the pedestrian walk (yeah the dogs also go for vacation!)
10. When you see less people working in the governmental agencies

So, I'm eager to go on vacation now. But where?

Sunbathing? Not my cup of tea.

Visit grandmothers? Will see them in the wedding soon.

Then I look at the banner photo in my blog. Yes I love scenery. I had such a great time in the Alps mountain last time. So here is where I'm going! Specifically included in the itinerary for my family trip. Any guesses where is this?

Go cook yourself an egg!

It always amazed me the way some French expression formed. I learnt from Samantha's blog about this expression:

qu'ils aillent se faire cuire un oeuf = that they go cook themselves an egg = go to hell

It's used when someone keep annoying you and at the end you just ask him/her to go to hell. What does it have to do with cooking an egg? I love egg very much and I really don't mind to cook myself an egg. hahaha

Rasa Sayng Eh!

Rasa Sayang Eh!
Rasa sayang eh! Rasa sayang sayang eh! Eh lihat nona jauh, rasa sayang sayang eh!
Rasa sayang eh! Rasa sayang sayang eh! Eh lihat nona jauh, rasa sayang sayang eh!
I would like to have this Malay song for my wedding. My nephew and nieces will sing it.

Anybody knows of some nice pantun to go with it?

Thanks!

Pirate Harry Potter French version

Read in the news that a 16 years old French translated the Harry Potter 7 and shared it online.

I know this is wrong, but the French version will only come out 26 Oct, 3 months after the release of the English version. Not fair if you ask me.

This adolescent was interrogated and most likely will be charged for the violation of the intellectual property. His website has since been closed.

The news also said that the Chinese version has been everywhere in the internet, while waiting for the real one to release.

I'm glad I read English. I just finished it yesterday. I won't want to wait 3 months.

Ratatouille - The rat chef

We went to see Walt Disney cartoon "Ratatouille" and it was excellent!

The whole story took place in Paris and it was charming to see the Eiffel Tower, under the eyes of the rat!

Yes, this cartoon is about everyone can cook, including this cute rat.

It's amazing, hubby was making this French dish "Ratatouille", then 2 days later he proposed to go see a movie "Ratatouille". Rat is the same word as in French, so this title matches completely: A rat who cook the famous French dish Ratatouille.

I'm so glad I discovered this dish as each week we got so much zucchinis from the farmer, this is a good dish to finish all of them haha.

Have you guys seen this movie? How do you like it?

Agar-agar: Dessert or appetizer?

I was in the Chinese grocery shop, chatting with my friend who works there, and a customer stopped by to ask her about "agar-agar". Since my friend is from China, she doesn't know what was it. I told her it's Chinese pudin/jelly/jelatin. The customer is French, I asked whether she is looking for something like English pudin, but she said no.

At check out, I saw she has the exact "agar-agar" powder we have in Malaysia. Since most of the French hate agar-agar, I told her that I was surprised she liked it. Apparently she has never tried it before, and her husband makes her try. She explained how she's going to take it: mix the powder with some water and take it as appetizer, and this will help her stay slim.

Wow, it's the first time I heard that agar-agar can be taken this way as appetizer, some more having effect of stay slim. Surely she is not going to make the sweet dessert out of it like the Malaysian.

Annoying tax return!

I posted sometimes ago that I needed to declare my tax return (required by bank to apply for the housing loan) even though I was not working thus not earning a single cent. We went to the tax office but the woman who received us was firmed that I have no right to fill a return since I was a foreign student. When I got to the other tax office for the declaration, I was told that since I was married in 2006, I needed to do one pre-wedding and one post wedding declaration.

Soon after that declaration, I received a letter from the the same woman, who remembered me and repeated that I have no right to fill a tax return pre-weddng due to my foreign status.

Today, I received a letter marked urgent, telling me that they couldn't find my pre-wedding return so I need to do it as soon as possible.

What the hell? One told me not to and threw away my pre-wedding declaration, now the other tell me to do it bcos I didn't do it? Well these two people should meet and agree among themselves.

I suck at parking!

These days hubby couldn't drive so I have to take up this responsibility. I have seen built up some confidence in driving, but I really suck when come to parking.

We live in an area with parallel parking, worst, uphill. Well, we have a private garage but have to do reverse in so I don't even dare to try. So today after going out to get some grocery, I came back and found out that the only spot left was the uphill parallel parking between two cars. I tried, and got stuck in the middle. The back of the car was still outside the line.

What did I do? Called hubby. Poor guy had to come down to rescue this stupid woman. Under his instructions then only I managed to park, during the process blocked 3 cars behind.

So are you guys good in parallel parking?

A pink roof

When attending my friends' wedding some weeks ago, I discovered this pink roof, I thought it look very nice.

Then I realized, that the pink color is due to the pink flowers growing on the roof. Is it nice? Good way to decorate the roof.
