  1. Do you feel that way about Paris ?

I don't know, after living in big cities for all my life while I was single, Sydney, Toyko, Hong Kong, K.L etc., now having family and kid, I don't care much for city life .

It would take lot of $ to even buy a decent apartment in San Francisco, let alone houses with backyard, swimming pools and lots of acres/woods.

One of my gfs (a Philippino lady) who moved from Miami (one of the large city in FL) to Lakecity ( a smaller city not far from us) in the early 80's. They bought 50acres of land, build a large home (with French window all around their home) and an apartment complex (2 stories) next to their 5 bedroom home for their guests.

I really like their home and surroundings, lots of woods and deers.

I thought wow, that is a cool lifestyle to bring up kid. Why live in big cities, with traffic hassles and crowded space.

Marriage and kid change me a lot :):).

  2. Hey! Where is Galt or Sacramento in that list?! Hahah.

You are right Jamy, I don't ever want to live in a big city. I live in a little town here and it can be so quiet in the house that you can hear the ringing in your ears!!

Forget about San Francisco. A tiny house can set you back a million bucks. :-(

  3. Little town might not have as much job offers. Ladies like you guys can do investment yourself so no problem lah. Austin is very ideal for me, not too big not too small and housing price was ok. Plenty big companies.

  4. Doris,

From my personal experience, most Malaysians who comes here (US) to study will stay in big cities after they graduate, for 2 very obvious reason, one for job , two for Asian communities.

But ladies like us who married the local here are fortunate to be able to live in medium size cities and not have to hassle with the big cities traffic, crowds and etc...

My own philosophy is once I get married, my career is secondary to my family. I worked very hard for 30+ yrs of my life. I don't think I wanted to work very hard now :)-.

In fact, when I first got here before we had kid, it was quite a temptation for me to find a job in Orlando (a much bigger city and a major airline hub; and with Disney , there are lots of IT job) but then when I think abt it, I thought what is the point ? leaving my husband in Gainesville and only driving back on the weekend ? I for one don't believe in spouse living in 2 different places. Seen too many examples, from my grandfather coming from China left behind his wife to my own friends in Brunei, all in the name of seeking a better fortune for the family but end up the family are separated ? what family quality is that ?

BE, yes, Austin is a nice city, not too big and not too small, lots of federal and state job. I quite like Austin. Our city is not that difference (in term of size) but we have a lot of smaller cities (20-40)minutes on highway from us.
