I got my first pay ever in France, for the muguet job. I worked 35 hours for 5 days. I didn't know that if you work on Sunday the minimum wage per hour is 12,41 euros instead of 8,27 euros for the normal day.
Anyway, after the 21 lines of taxes deduction, which took away about 30% of the total amount, I got 269,08 euros, which translate into more than RM1200, a monthly salary for certain Malaysians. No wonder so many immigrants are willing to work legal or illegally in France, bcos they are still earning more than in their home country.
One of my friend worked from 6pm to 12am to earn 20 euros in a Chinese restaurant. A Thai girl got 15 euros for the same type of job and she is very happy about it. It's sad that eventhough they know it's one kind of exploitation, these Chinese restaurants and grocery, there are still tons of people willing to work for them.
Congratulation BE !

I personally think when we live oversea, we should not convert the $ into our home currency rate cos we are living in oversea not our homeland.
I hope u don't think I try to insult you but I really think it is an insult to get RM$1200 for a master degree holder.
I don't think if one has a choice to have a good life, one would want to left our loves ones, pack and live in a strange place; of course for people like us who immigrate cos of LOVE , it is a different story :).
It is sad that there are a lot of countries who do not have jobs for their citizens.
When I was in Australia, I knew a lot of people from 'Pasang' Hokkien for Klang, who went to Australia illegally. They worked for Chinese restaurants or maids for legal established Malaysia. At that time, I did not know much abt the tin price factor (until explained by Tony Lim). We used to call these people 'chow lo kien', quite a degratory term. All these people have 1 common intention, find a better future for their next generation. They suffered a great deal cos there are a lot of 'heatless' people who notify the authority on their whereabt ; and as a result these poor people would have to flee for their safety etc...
I think Malaysia is getting more and more affluent, I am sure less and less of people would want to be illegal.
However, now with the internet, there are so many opportunities to make $. Even bloggers are making big $. Look at this stay at home mom http://chanlilian.net/
She is teaching people how to make $ from blogging cos she is making a lot of $ out of blogging.

As an immigrant, I knew the 'sing swan' of being an immigrant !
Jamy, the different between you and me is that you are fluent in English and I'm not in French. So many people chosed to move to anglo-saxon country for one thing they don't have to learn the language anymore. Yes I agree that we shouldn't convert into our local currency, but just to show you have certain people are willing to work bcos they can then send this money home and this money becomes big. You need to remember this RM1200 is only for 5 days. If it were for 25 days it would be RM6000, higher for certain master holder in Malaysia.
ReplyDeleteYes I'm here for love so I need to give up something hehe.
Yes, BE, I forgot it is 5days. Yes, it might be higher for certain master degree holder. Just becos my siblings command very high salary does not mean all graduates have that kind of salary, forgive my ignorant.
ReplyDeleteBut, I am sure u get higher if u work in US.
"Jamy, the different between you and me is that you are fluent in English and I'm not in French."
BE, it makes a different if I have been educated in US . Even though I speak English but my Australia degree and experience count 0 here. So I have to start all over again, like you in France. Can u believe I have to take college English ! So stupid ! For Pete sake, I attended one of the most prestige uni in Aust, as good as Harvard during my times.
A lot of people don't understand why I have to go to school again since I have a Master degree. I save my times to explain to them.
Life is not easy as an immigrant as I said.
But one of the things that help me a lot and thankful for it is that my late MIL left us enough for me to adventure into my own investment. I think that give me a lot of freedom and choices to do a lot of things which others could not have the opp. In that respect, I am very fortunate.
Yes Jamy,
ReplyDeleteI think you are a lucky woman. You found a country that gives you the opportunity to use your talents at it's highest level. And you found your life partner and a lovely son. Life is beautiful!!!
